«Narró Ali Ibn Abu Talib, Al-lah esté complacido con él: “la oración impar (witr) no es obligatoria como lo son las oraciones prescriptas, sin embargo es una tradición profética que hacía el Mensajero de Al-lah -la paz y las bendiciones de Al-lah sean con él-”.»

The meaning in a few plain lines
معنى الحديث: صلاة الوتر ليس بواجبة، كالصلوات الخَمس، ولكن سُنَّة سَنَّها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، أي: أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سَنَّ لنا الوِتر ولم يُوجبه علينا، وهذا تأكيد لقوله: "ليس بِحَتم"، فالوتر صلاة مستحبة ومندوبة فقط.
